Suitable Trees for Bonsai

my malpigia has been loosing leaves with very few new ones...help

Having trouble finding juniper info.  

Has anyone ever used an alnus rubra?  I have several in the 2-3 year group.

We have an abundance of red cedars around here. Would they be good for a stater tree?

I would recommend Acer buergerianum as a suitable species for bonsai beginners. It is very hardy, has a strong root system and gives new shoots easily after even most radical pruning.
